Short chapbook of 36 poems which capture the ephemeral quality of nature. In these pages, autumn's dying leaves crumple beneath winter's shroud of snow, and the last fleeting days of the year slip away forever.

Tragic, melancholy, bittersweet ... these poems embrace and revel in the changing seasons, which mirror so closely the rhythm of the human heart.

Autumn

red
a flame
igniting the world
the blaze

devouring green
in an unheard crackle
of dying anticipation

blue
edged frost
embers fizzling in weak light

the trees on fire

Dandelions

After the last frost I spot one or two in my yard,
scouts hidden among the grass,
moving into position.

I cut them down with the mower, triumphant,
and spray pesticide on their ragged leaves to root them out.
Victory will be mine.

But the next spring rain brings with it
reinforcements;
out of my window I can see
troops of yellow-headed flowers overtaking my lawn

and advancing.
